My Life Journey

Beyond the code and architecture diagrams, there's a story shaped by curiosity, courage, and the occasional happy accident. Here are some of the milestones — big and small — that made me who I am today.

Roots in Havana

Havana, Cuba — placeholder

I was born and raised in the vibrant, colourful streets of Havana, Cuba — a place that gave me an endless curiosity about how the world works and a love for improvisation that later proved invaluable in software engineering.

2006

Choosing the Path of Code

I enrolled in Computer Engineering at the University of Computer Sciences (UCI) in Havana. Those five years were a deep dive into algorithms, systems, and late-night debugging sessions — the foundation of everything that followed.

First Degree — and First Real Job

Graduating with my Engineering Degree felt like crossing a finish line — until I realised it was actually the starting line. I joined the university as a Software Developer, building Java EE systems and learning that real-world code rarely looks like textbook examples.

2013

Industry Debut at Desoft S.A.

Joining Desoft S.A. opened the door to real enterprise projects — Django, PHP, Symfony — and taught me that clean architecture is not a luxury, it's a survival tool. I also discovered I genuinely love mentoring teammates and sharing what I know.

My First Child Was Born

My First Child — placeholder

Welcoming my first daughter, Victoria, into the world was a moment of pure joy and a life-changing experience. It taught me the true meaning of responsibility, patience, and unconditional love.

New Horizons in Ecuador

Quito, Ecuador — placeholder

I made a leap of faith and moved to Quito, Ecuador, to start my own freelance venture. Leading a small team of developers and designers while building e-commerce platforms taught me as much about people management as it did about technical delivery.

A New Chapter in Seville, Spain

Seville, Spain — placeholder

Seville welcomed me with its warm light, great food, and a buzzing tech scene. Joining The Cloud Network marked my arrival in the European software market — Symfony on Google Cloud, a steep but exciting learning curve, and a city I quickly called home.

Back to School — While Working Full-Time

Enrolling in a Master's programme at Universidad Pablo de Olavide while holding a demanding engineering role was one of the hardest things I've done. Weekends disappeared, coffee consumption tripled, but the determination to keep growing never wavered.

From Engineer to Team Lead

Taking on the Backend Team Lead role at BLC Moving Technologies was a pivotal shift. I learned that leading people means listening twice as much as you talk. Introducing TDD and DDD practices to the team and watching the codebase — and the people — grow was deeply rewarding.

Master's Degree: Mission Accomplished

After three years of balancing work, studies, and life, I earned my Master's in Computer Engineering from UPO. More than the certificate, I valued the proof to myself that perseverance — and a solid sleep schedule when possible — really does pay off.

My Second Child Was Born

As we don’t like to sit still, seven years after the birth of our first daughter, Victoria, Néstor Jr. arrived. A new source of joy for our family.

Going Global — Fully Remote

Working remotely with teams in South Africa (Stock2Shop), Marbella (Cash Converters), and beyond showed me that great software transcends borders. The shift to Cloud Native development and API-first architecture felt like everything I'd been building toward finally clicking into place.

Building What's Next

Joining Version Zero and contributing to open source projects like Mautic and WordPress has brought a new sense of purpose. I'm at a point in my career where I can shape products, mentor others, and still geek out over a well-designed API — and I wouldn't have it any other way.
